China is a 3° country and the biggest economy in the world testing its own digital currency in retail
The digital yuan allows offline payments
The currency is already being used by foreigners at the Winter Olympic Games
The Digital Yuan launch puts China ahead of this important tendency and now, catalyzed by the Chinese achievements, other countries are running to achieve the same.
The Chinese currency, which was already on trial since last year in a few cities, was launched during Beijing’s Winter Olympic Games, where the athletes can use it as an official payment method. It also means the facility that Digital Yuan will bring, since to use the currency the tourists will only need to download the digital wallet and that’s it! It does not require a Chinese bank account or a Chinese credit card.
China has already a highly used payment system, however, one of the main innovations brought by Digital Yuan will allow offline payments, whether in a thirty thousand feet airplane or in a remote place without an internet connection.
