8.2% of the world's telemedicine industry is controlled by Chinese companies
Ping An Good Doctor, the country's leading digital health app, has more than 340 million registered users
Over the next five years, telemedicine is expected to experience growth of up to 164%
There are already about 56 million users of telemedicine services in the country. Most of them are young people up to 35 years old. The expectation is that the aging of the Chinese population and the asymmetry in the distribution of quality medical services throughout the territory will further encourage the use of technologies in the health sector and their use by the population.
In 2018, China had a population of 12% of elderly people, a number that is expected to reach 25% by 2030. This scenario should increase the demand for medical resources and dramatically pressure the country’s healthcare spending. To sustain the health sector, the use of technologies that reach the population on a large scale and at a controlled cost will be vital.
